Dixon vs Grainger For Left-Back Spot

Dundee United left-back Danny Grainger now has competition for his starting place, after Paul Dixon completed his move from local rivals Dundee.

Dixon`s contract with Dundee expired at the end of the 07/08 campaign, but Dundee were due compensation because he was under the age of 24.

A fee of around £25,000 was agreed between both Dundee clubs, with the 21-year-old signing a 3-year deal with United at the start of this week.

"I believe in having strong competition and cover for all first team places and needed another left back after Christian Kalvenes finally decided to return home," Craig Levein told the Dundee United Official website.

"I`m delighted therefore to sign Paul who will provide competition to Danny Grainger in this position."

"Paul is another player I`ve known about for a long time and I`ve always felt he had good potential."

Meanwhile, Dixon himself was happy that he made the decision to move from Dens Park to Tannadice.

"'I'm delighted to sign for Dundee United and am looking forward to working with Craig Levein and his coaching staff," admitted Dixon.

"I am fully aware of his record in improving players from lower divisions, which was a prime motivation for choosing Dundee United".

What is Christian Kalvenes like? Any good? Apparently he is coming to Burnley on Monday to sign a contract. He has verbally agreed terms.
