It`s looking unlikely that Dundee United manager Craig Levein will sign a new striker before the start of new season.
Instead, Levein appears to be pinning his hopes on fringe player Jon Daly to make a big impact upfront for United.
Daly has been plagued by ankle injuries since arriving at Tannadice 18-months ago and for that reason has struggled to break into the 1st team squad.
The 25-year-old former Hartlepool United striker will be working hard on his fitness during the pre-season, hoping to improve on his United record of 2 goals in 20 games.
Last week Levein seemed determined to find a new goal scorer before the 1st match of the season against Hamilton, but seems to be back-tracking with his comments about Daly.
"Jon`s had a wretched time since he`s been here because of the serious injuries he`s had, he`s not even had the chance to put together a run of games," Levein told the Setanta Sports website.
"When he has played I`ve been impressed because he`s brought a physical dimension to our attack and that`s important. I think with a good pre-season under his belt he`ll be flying when the new season kicks off."
"We`re much better off than we were last season. We`ve got Noel Hunt, Jon Daly and Andis Shala this time round, we only had Hunt in place at this stage 12 months ago."
