Out Of 2 Cup Competitions In 10 Days
Dundee United crashed out of the Scottish Cup after 2 goals in 7 minutes put SPL rivals Hamilton through to the Quarter-Finals of the competition.
It was looking good for Craig Levein`s side at half-time after a Danny Grainger free-kick had given them a 1-0 lead and they looked to be in complete control of the match.
However, a double from Chris Swailes gave Hamilton a 2-1 lead to continue their impressive unbeaten run over Dundee United this season.
United striker Warren Feeney wasted several great opportunities to seal a United win, including a chance just before half-time when Garry Kenneth`s header put Feeney one-on-one with the keeper, but he blasted his shot wide.
In the closing stages of the match,
eeney`s close-range header was straight at Hamilton keeper Cerny, while a failed attempt to benefit from a scramble inside the penalty box proved it wasn`t going to be United`s afternoon.
The result means that United have crashed out of both domestic cup competitions in successive weeks, after losing to Celtic in the Semi-Final at Hampden Park on penalty-kicks last week.
United manager Levein was disappointed by the final result, by was taking positives from the performance at New Douglas Park.
'We played well, had good opportunities to score and got into some fantastic positions. Half time came at the wrong time because we were in the ascendancy," admitted Levein to the BBC.
'A couple of poor bits of defending have cost us. And, bar the goalkeeper's heel in the last couple of minutes, we would've got a replay.'
