Douglas will make it big

Dundee United`s latest signing Barry Douglas will definitely establish his credentials at Tannadice reckons his former head coach Gardner Speirs.

The 20-year-old arrived at the club this week from Queen's Park despite considerable interest from English Championship club Watford.

And Speirs, who originally handed Douglas his senior debut at the beginning of the 2008-09 campaign, is certain the newcomer can successfully deal with the higher standard of football.

"I`m sure Barry will do well at Dundee United and I am delighted he has got his move to full-time football as he was outstanding for us," Speirs told The Herald.

"We will miss him but I am sure he will make a name for himself at Dundee United. It is a big step up but he will handle it."
