Anxious wait for Daly

Dundee United striker Jon Daly still fears that his club could lose some of their star names before the big kick-off on 14th August.

While his manager Peter Houston has continued to stress that there have been no firm bids for any of his stars, there have continued to be rumours of possible departures for the likes of Morgaro Gomis, Garry Kenneth and Craig Conway.

And that has left Daly waiting anxiously for the close of the transfer window in two months time.

"The manager and players want to stay together but it's out of our hands," he told the Daily Record. "However, I'd like to think we could keep all our stars because this is an ambitious club.

"I'm pretty sure there will be a few offers for our players though. And you can't stand in someone's way if they are going on to bigger and better things."

The Arabs squad returned for pre-season training on Friday and Daly is just hopeful that they can ideally stay together for the challenges that lie ahead.

But should that happen he remains confident that the Tannadice squad is strong enough to deal with it.

"If guys like Craig, Morgaro and Garry left it would be a big blow but you have to bounce back," he added.

"We have Europe to look forward to and the squad is big enough to cope with losing one or two players. There is strength in depth and some decent kids are coming through."
