Sturrock appointed at Southend
Former Dundee United boss Paul Sturrock has been named as the new manager of Southend United on a three-year contract.
The 53-year-old will be assisted by Salisbury City chief Tommy Widdrington and takes over from Steve Tilson after he was put on gardening leave at the weekend.
Tilson had been in charge at Roots Hall for more than six years but has paid the price for the Shrimpers' relegation to League Two at the end of last season.
They also face the prospect of a winding-up order this month over an unpaid tax bill of around £200,000.
Sturrock returns to management after his second spell at Plymouth Argyle ended in April.
He also had time in charge at St Johnstone, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon Town.
Meanwhile, ex-Southampton midfielder Widdrington leaves Salisbury after they were demoted two divisions from the Football Conference following an infringement of rules last season.
