New signing Filip Mentel is tipped to have a very bright future at Dundee United.
The 20-year-old Slovakian goalkeeper signed a three-year deal at Tannadice yesterday following an impressive trial with the club last season.
And while his acquisition is viewed as very much one for the future, manager Peter Houston doesn't expect is will be that long before he is challenging his fellow countryman Dusan Pernis for the number one position.
"Filip came to us on trial last season and, to be honest, I didn't for a minute think we'd get him," Houston told the Daily Record. "So I'm thrilled to bring him on board and if he turns out as good as Dusan I'll be delighted.
"He's been at Manchester City so he comes with an impressive pedigree," he continued. "We've had a good record of picking up keepers from that part of the world.
"There is no single reason we've looked in that market but in Dusan, Lukasz Zaluska and Grzegorz Szamotulski we've ended up with three top-class guys.
"We've got good contacts in Eastern Europe and even though Filip has been at Manchester City we've talked to the same sources. He's here to push Dusan - as is Steve Banks - so it should be a good three-way fight."
