Scottish under-21 international striker David Goodwillie is in no mood to be dislodged from the side after forging a promising partnership with Jon Daly last season.
Goodwillie scored thirteen goals in 29 starts last term but is currently readying himself for an expected challenge for his place from the fit-again Francisco Sandaza.
Meanwhile, Andis Shala and Damian Casalinuovo are also sure to be pushing him hard this time around.
"I'm going into the new season looking to maintain the position I had in the second half of last season," Goodwillie told The Courier. "That'll be tough as there is lots of competition for the striking positions. So I'm trying to get myself as fit as possible.
"I want to feel safe in the team and play the full season — that's the aim."
The 21-year-old marksman missed the Arabs' weekend triumph in Oban, but insists that it was only ever a precautionary measure.
"I felt a couple of niggles but nothing serious," he said. "It was just a precautionary thing that I didn't go to Oban," he added.
