Don't call me 'Super sub'

 Don't call me 'Super sub'

Dundee United's David Robertson reckons that 'Super sub' is comfortably the worst term in football.

But the 23-year-old midfielder has made something of a name for himself in that department after leaving the bench on a number of occasions and claiming important goals.

However, he would naturally much prefer to be a regular in the side rather than relying on waiting patiently on the edge of the action for his chance.

"This season is huge for me because it wasn't until the end of last season I started playing regularly," he told The Courier. "When Craig Levein left I spoke to Housty and to be fair to him he gave me a chance.

"I have this reputation as a super sub, but I hate it," he added. "It is the worst tag in football, nobody wants to be known for that.

"Obviously it is great to be known for scoring the odd important goal, but I want to do it from the start, rather than just getting 10 minutes here and there.

"But that is up to me. I have to do enough to catch the manager's eye and I think that if I can steer clear of injury then I can do it."

Boss pleased to get through

Manager Ray McKinnon was pleased to get through against Queen of the South but not particularly happy with the second-half performance.

Queen of the South 2 Dundee United 3

Dundee United took command of their Challenge Cup semi-final with three first-half goals before hosts Queen of the South staged a late rally.

Charlie Telfer and Scott Fraser both netted inside eleven minutes for the visitors and on loan forward Tony Andreu then added a delightful third.

Stephen Dobbie managed a reply early in the second period and Derek Lyle grabbed another during injury-time - but it's United meeting either St Mirren or The New Saints in the final.
