Striker will come good

Striker will come good

David Robertson says that team-mate David Goodwillie is well capable of lighting up the Scottish Premier League this season.

Goodwillie has had something of a mixed pre-season campaign after receiving criticism for his display against Glentoran before a great two-goal performance at Raith Rovers in midweek.

"I had been speaking to Goodie and he wasn't happy himself with the way he had played this summer," Robertson told The Courier. "He certainly put things right against Raith, scoring twice and setting one up for me. In fact, he was immense.

"This is a massive season for him and I think he will really take off this year," he added. "Towards the end of last season he showed what a good player he is.

"He scored a stunning goal in the Scottish Cup final and looked the player we all knew he could be. He is still only 21, which is amazing because he seems to have been around for ever."

Boss pleased to get through

Manager Ray McKinnon was pleased to get through against Queen of the South but not particularly happy with the second-half performance.

Queen of the South 2 Dundee United 3

Dundee United took command of their Challenge Cup semi-final with three first-half goals before hosts Queen of the South staged a late rally.

Charlie Telfer and Scott Fraser both netted inside eleven minutes for the visitors and on loan forward Tony Andreu then added a delightful third.

Stephen Dobbie managed a reply early in the second period and Derek Lyle grabbed another during injury-time - but it's United meeting either St Mirren or The New Saints in the final.
