Talks open for defender
Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has held talks with representatives of trialist Irmantas Zelmikas in a bid to bring the experienced Lithuanian international to Tannadice.
The 30-year-old is being viewed as an ideal replacement for former loan defender Andy Webster following his return to Rangers. The Arabs' resources were also recently stretched by the retirement of Lee Wilkie.
Zelmikas has been a regular in the last few pre-season games and netted at both ends against Hull City at the weekend.
"I appreciate we need a central defender but this one is not concluded yet," Thompson told The Courier.
Meanwhile, striker Kevin Smith has completed his move to Notts County following a recent trial.
