Relief for Daly

Relief for Daly

Jon Daly admitted his relief after scoring a late equaliser for Dundee United in their opening day draw at St Mirren.

Despite dominating proceedings for much of the game the travelling Arabs appeared set to return home disappointed until Daly struck with just over a minute remaining.

New signing Sean Lynch had earlier given their opponents the lead with an excellent finish on 73 minutes.

"There was a sense of relief when the goal went in," Daly told BBC Sport. "It's a weight off your shoulders to equalise. It's just a shame that there were only a couple of minutes left and we didn't have time to go and get the winner.

"We came here wanting to win and I think we were unfortunate that we didn't," he added. "We had plenty of crosses, but it's turning them into chances and the final ball is probably what let us down.

"Things just didn't seem to be going our way. Everything seemed to be dropping to them until the last minute, when it just fell at my feet and I put it away."
