Defender Sean Dillon says that optimism is very high at Tannadice and that his club will be going all-out to even surpass last season's successes.
That in itself is going to take some doing after the Arabs gloriously clinched the Scottish Cup last season, while also finishing in third place in the Scottish Premier.
And whether they can actually split the Old Firm in the table this time around remains very much open to question, particularly as Peter Houston's side also face the additional challenge of Europe.
The Tangerines welcome AEK Athens to Tayside in their Europa League qualifier later this week, and a confident Dillon was already setting his sights high for the campaign ahead.
"You aim high, you have to have that belief you can go one better," he told The Herald. "I`m not saying we`re going to win the league but you`ve got to have that belief. We`ll push and see if we can have a chance at getting second.
"There`s a lot expected of us this year. We expect a lot of ourselves too - it doesn`t just come from outside the club," Dillon added. "We got a taste of it last year but more so this year people will look at us more as a scalp. That`s something we`ve got to deal with and we need to make sure we play certainly no less than we did last year."
