Dillon fears of Conway exit

Dillon fears of Conway exit

Sean Dillon is still fearful that Dundee United could lose winger Craig Conway before the close of the transfer window later this month.

Fresh speculation has recently linked Middlesbrough with a renewed bid for the 25-year-old Scottish international, which may now gather pace after the Championship title hopefuls suffered serious injury blows in each of their opening two league games.

First ex-Arab Willo Flood was ruled out for around six months after suffering a serious knee injury on the opening day of the season before their recent recruit from Rangers, Kevin Thomson, fractured his fibula at the weekend and is likely to miss the next couple of months.

"Because he has been playing so well, there has been speculation over his future, but as the transfer deadline draws ever closer you can't rule out someone coming in for him, because he is that good a player," Dillon told The Courier.

"If Craig goes, he'll go with everyone's best wishes for the massive contribution he has made - though from a purely selfish point of view I'd rather he stayed."

Striker Scott McDonald scored a vital late winner to keep Dundee United firmly setting the pace at the top of the Championship.

The Tangerines included Scott Fraser for the suspended Paul McMullan and his curled effort after moving inside was denied by goalkeeper Graeme Smith.

Both James Keatings and McDonald also threatened for hosts seeking a third consecutive league victory having previously accounted for Inverness CT and Queen of the South.

The visitors were then close
