Pride in the name of United

Pride in the name of United

Jon Daly will be a very proud man tonight when leading his Dundee United side into action against AEK Athens in their Europa League clash at Tannadice.

That kind of occasion appeared a distant dream for him when he used to ply his trade at the likes of former clubs Stockport County, Hartlepool United, Bury and Grimsby Town.

But the return to Rangers of on loan defender Andy Webster at the end of last season found the captain's armband suddenly thrust into Daly's direction and he couldn't be happier.

"I will be bursting with pride and it is a great honour for me," he told The Courier. "To captain such a great club in our first European tie for five years is something special.

"It will be a big, big occasion for everyone, myself included," Daly continued. "Not only will it be my first time skippering the team in Europe it will be the first time for me in a competitive game at Tannadice. So I am looking forward to it, to say the least.

"When I was at the likes of Stockport, Bury and Grimsby, this kind of stage seemed a long way away. It will be a great experience and I am determined to make the most of it."

Striker Murray earned them an early lead following a powerful break but Stephen Dobbie and Joe Thomson replied either side of the interval - and Dom Thomas then added another.

However, Fraser brought the hosts back into it w
