 Crucial scan for Dan

Danny Swanson was having a scan today to determine the full extent of the hamstring problem that continues to trouble him.

The returning midfielder managed only a couple of minutes of action against Hearts last weekend after already missing most of pre-season with the injury.

That left the Tannadice medical team believing there could be an underlying back problem which should be either confirmed or ruled out by the MRI procedure

"Danny will have a scan to try to finally get to the bottom of the problem," first-team coach Gary Kirk told The Courier. "We want it sorted out once and for all as he had virtually no pre-season and he is an important player for us. We miss his creativity on the park and just want him injury-free again."

Meanwhile, striker Johnny Russell is back in training after suffering ankle ligament damage on the opening morning of pre-season.

"Johnny has been back training for a couple of weeks now and he managed to play in a bounce game with the youth team at St Andrews on Thursday," added Kirk.
