 Scott's experience will be crucial

Dundee United manager Peter Houston says that the experience of latest signing Scott Severin will help bring out the best of his younger players at Tannadice.

The 31-year-old Scottish international has arrived from Watford after successful earlier spells at Hearts and Aberdeen. And Houston believes that the midfielder turned defender will have a crucial role for the Arabs this season.

"We've got a very young squad and I think his experience will rub off on others," Houston told the Daily Record. "We need experienced players as well as good young players.

"He's organised, he's a good passer of the ball, he's decent in the air," he continued. "He's got all the characteristics as a player and as a person that I want in our dressing room.

"Garry Kenneth likes somebody who is experienced alongside him," added Houston. "Scott hasn't played for a while so it might be a few games before we see him at his very best, but I know for a fact that if he goes on to the park tomorrow, he'll give us 100 per cent."
