Defender out until New Year

Dundee United's stricken defender Darren Dods is expected to face the next five weeks on the sidelines.

The experienced 35-year-old has been resting up of late in a bid to shake-off a cartilage problem that has affected him for the past couple of months.

But he has now conceded that he will be out of action until the New Year and joining fellow centre-back Scott Severin on the injury-list.

"Darren has had the problem for a while now so it was best he got it sorted out," manager Peter Houston confirmed to the Daily Record.

Edinburgh-born Dods has managed only four appearances so far this season.
