Daly ruled out
Dundee United are set to be without their skipper Jon Daly until around April as he prepares for hernia surgery.
Manager Peter Houston could therefore be forced into trying to add to his squad as Daly's absence leaves him with only David Goodwillie, Johnny Russell and Andis Shala competing for places in attack.
However, the Terrors boss is still hopeful that his captain may be able to return ahead of schedule.
"He is out for four to six weeks but, knowing Jon's character, he might be back before that and that's the hope," he told BBC Scotland. "He's a big player for us, but if you can't run or kick the ball without getting bother, then it's time to get it fixed.
"I might be trying to bring someone in who is out of contract but we've got good young strikers," Houston added. "Andis Shala has been desperate for a chance, Johnny Russell has been doing exceptionally well and he is a striker, I have always said that."
