Tangerines target former loan striker

Tangerines target former loan striker

Dundee United have targeted their former loan striker Jordan Robertson for a trial following his release from prison.

The Tangerines are rather short of options in attack at present after skipper Jon Daly was sidelined due to a hernia problem.

23-year-old Robertson actually had a spell at Tannadice for the 2007-08 season from Sheffield United and netted four times under former boss Craig Levein. But he since served a prison sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

"He was a young lad who was up on loan from Sheffield United when Craig Levein was the manager, and scored a couple of goals against Hearts at Tynecastle, scored on his debut against Ross County, so he is a goalscorer," United manager Peter Houston told BBC Scotland.

"But he was a very young boy at the time. He lost his place in the team, he was substituted just towards the end of his loan period and he had some personal problems with his family down south and he went back slightly early.

"He's obviously had an issue and personal problems as well," he added. "He was training with Reading a fortnight ago and I was made aware that he was looking for a club and I'd invited him up to Scotland to come and train with us again and see how he does."

Final held at Motherwell

Dundee United are to meet St Mirren at Motherwell's Fir Park in the Scottish Challenge Cup final on Saturday 25th March.

Boss pleased to get through

Manager Ray McKinnon was pleased to get through against Queen of the South but not particularly happy with the second-half performance.

Queen of the South 2 Dundee United 3

Dundee United took command of their Challenge Cup semi-final with three first-half goals before hosts Queen of the South staged a late rally.

Charlie Telfer and Scott Fraser both netted inside eleven minutes for the visitors and on loan forward Tony Andreu then added a delightful third.

Stephen Dobbie managed a reply early in the second period and Derek Lyle grabbed another during injury-time - but it's United meeting either St Mirren or The New Saints in the final.
