'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Houston hails young striker

Dundee United manager Peter Houston was full of praise for striker Johnny Russell following his midweek brace against Hearts.

The 20-year-old netted twice during the final seven minutes as the Tangerines recorded a fourth successive league victory.

And that was sufficient to move them into fourth place in the table.

"We've always said he's got an eye for goal," Houston told BBC Scotland. "This is the reason why guys like Johnny Russell are getting an extra three years on their contract. He's earned it. A fantastic victory for us.

"If I look at the whole team tonight, I really thought the players were magnificent. We didn't create mega chances but if you look at Dusan Pernis, I don't think he's had a save to make the whole game," he added.

"If we finish fourth this season, I'll be absolutely delighted. My main concern is making sure that we're top six."
