Houston praises United

Peter Houston paid tribute to the resilience of his side after Dundee United were forced to come from behind to gather a point in their opening SPL game against Kilmarnock.

Substitute Danny Swanson struck an equaliser in a 1-1 draw after Rory McKeown had given the visitors an early second-half lead at Tannadice

"I cannot fault my players for their effort," Houston told BBC Scotland. "Three days after a very tough match at Tannadice against the Polish outfit and we were still going strong."

The Terrors actually finished the game with ten men when recent signing Gary Mackay-Steven limped off with an ankle problem after Houston had already made his full quota of substitutions.

"Even down to 10 men I thought we could have won it in the last minute with but David [Goodwillie] decided to go round the goalkeeper," he added. "I would have been disappointed if we hadn't taken anything from the game."
