'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Russell can make place his own

Johnny Russell can be the man to fill the not inconsiderable boots of the departed David Goodwillie, says his manager Peter Houston.

Russell has stepped into the vacancy caused by Goodwillie's recent move to Blackburn Rovers and Houston believes it could be a long-term appointment.

"He will be mixed up, he will be asked to play a number of positions because one thing about Johnny, he's versatile," Houston told stv.tv. "It's going to take him a few games.

"He has played the last couple of games as joint striker with Jon Daly and he has worked extremely hard but sometimes having not played in that position for a while, it takes a wee while to get up and running again," he added.

"I expect Johnny Russell eventually could be, in my opinion, every bit as good as David Goodwillie."
