Rankin impressed by youngster

Summer arrival John Rankin has been really impressed by the early-season form of youngster Scott Allan.

Nineteen-year-old Allan only made his SPL debut at Hearts three weeks ago but Rankin certainly likes what he has seen so far and believes there is still plenty more to come.

"I was really impressed by Scotty in training before the season started but the last few weeks are the first time I have seen him in games," Rankin told the Dundee Courier. "The manager has great confidence in him and so do the rest of the lads.

"He came to Parkhead with us at the weekend and did brilliantly, just like he did in the other two games," he added. "It can be a bit of a culture shock the first time you play on that stage but he handled it really well."
