Dundee United have signed Polish goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak on a pre-contract agreement.
The 28-year-old spoke to ex-United keeper Lukasz Zaluska before making the decision. Indeed when Zaluska originally moved to Tayside from Polish club Korona Kielce in 2007, he was actually replaced there by Cierzniak.
Former Lech Poznan shot-stopper Cierzniak would appear to be being lined up as the natural successor to Slovakian ace Dusan Pernis, who is set to quit the club at the end of the season alongside the likes of Scott Robertson, Paul Dixon and Garry Kenneth.
"I am very happy to sign for Dundee United," Cierznik told the Dundee Courier. "I came to the club on trial and played in a training match so I got a good feel for the place. The team has some very good players and there is a good atmosphere about the club so I am very optimistic about the move.
"I spoke with Lukasz Zaluska before I came on trial and then again before I signed," he confirmed. "He is a very good friend and he told me that Dundee United is a great club to play for and that I will be able to be a success there."
"Dusan has indicated to us that he wants to go at the end of the season," added manager Peter Houston. "We don't have a problem with players wanting to move on. If they don't perform, then they won't get a move so they've got to do well for us to get someone to sign them.
"He [Cierznik] has signed a pre-contract with us to come in the summer. I'm sure he will be a good addition to the squad."
