Midfielder agrees deal

Dundee United midfielder John Rankin has already verbally agreed to a new deal at Tannadice.

Rankin only joined the club last summer on a two-year contract, which is now set to be extended for a further twelve months. That would see him remaining on Tayside until the end of the 2013-14 campaign.

The 28-year-old has been an ever-present since arriving from Hibernian and his decision to extend his stay comes as a major boost to manager Peter Houston.

"He has verbally agreed," Houston told stv.tv. "The chairman has been speaking to his agent. I spoke to John with regards to it and he's told his agent to get it sorted and signed up. I'm delighted for John. He has been an exceptional player since signing from Hibs."
