Houston happy with trusty deputy

Peter Houston is backing the experienced Robbie Neilson to help hold things together and hopefully extend his stay with the club.

The 31-year-old was forced to switch from his starting right-back role when central defender Gavin Gunning suffered a shoulder injury during the weekend victory at St Johnstone. That has left the ex-Blackburn Rovers stopper doubtful for the next game at home to Hearts, which means Neilson will likely partner Sean Dillon against his former club.

"Robbie has been really good for us and his experience has been important to the club," Houston told the Dundee Courier. "He played centre half for Hearts so it won't be a problem for him playing there again if he needs to. I brought him here because we were a very young team and he has been a big influence in the dressing room.

"He is a quiet professional and an honest lad. You don't get anything fancy from Robbie but he defends extremely well," he continued. "He knows how to defend and that's appreciated by his colleagues. I would like to keep him but I don't know what his thoughts are."

Falkirk 1 Dundee United 2

Dundee United are into the Scottish Premiership play-off final after Paul Dixon scored a late winner at Falkirk.

The hosts had moved in front following a 2-2 draw in the first game when James Craigen opened their account on eleven minutes.

But Simon Murray equalised with fourteen minutes remaining, and with extra-time appearing increasingly probable, left-back Dixon headed a dramatic second.

The Tangerines now play either Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Hamilton Academical
