'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rankin urges others to follow

Dundee United midfielder John Rankin has urged his team-mates to follow his example and sign new deals at Tannadice.

Rankin has been a virtual ever-present in his first season since arriving from Hibernian and has already agreed a new contract. He is now calling for United's out-of-contract stars to do the same after helping the club up into fourth place in the table with their latest victory at St Johnstone.

"I`m delighted to stay for another season, I`ve been playing with a smile on my face since I came here," Rankin told the Daily Record. "I came to United for a new challenge, which is to keep the club in European football.

"I took the contract and feel happy with it. The boys will see that and hopefully we`ll get more signed up," he added. "If we can get the bulk of the team to sign new deals and stick together then who knows what could happen?"
