Midfielder extends deal

Dundee United midfielder John Rankin has extended his current deal by another year up until the summer of 2014.

The 28-year-old joined the club from Hibernian just over twelve months ago and proved an ever-present with 44 appearances as the Taysiders clinched fourth place in the table. He also weighed in with five goals.

Rankin was later confirmed as the club's player of the year at their end of season awards.

"His undoubted ability allied with his fitness and work rate were always going to appeal to the fans and his experience was vital to the blend of our team last season," manager Peter Houston told United's official website. "Such was his level of performance throughout the season that I am thrilled he has committed for a further year."
