United in Rapid defeat

Dundee United went down 3-0 to Rapid Vienna in a pre-season friendly earlier this week.

New signings Radoslaw Cierzniak, Brian McLean and Michael Gardyne were all handed debuts for the visitors while Mark Millar was included on the bench.

But Muhammed Ildiz opened the scoring with a fierce 35-yard drive on the quarter-hour and Christopher Drazan soon added a second with another great finish four minutes later.

Gardyne forced a sharp save in reply and fellow newcomer Cierzniak did well to keep out goalscorer Drazan at the other end before United boss Peter Houston made wholesale changes at the break. Jon Daly, Barry Douglas, Gavin Gunning, Willo Flood, Gary Mackay-Steven and Millar were all introduced into the action.

However, it was another of his replacements, Dale Hilson, having an effort saved by the feet of Rapid goalkeeper Konigshofer until Drazan struck a third goal under opposite number Stevie Banks from the edge of the area just ahead of the hour.
