Houston would welcome big rivals

Dundee United manager Peter Houston would welcome the return of city rivals Dundee into the Scottish Premier League.

The Dark Blues were waiting to learn if they are to replace Rangers in the top-flight following the Ibrox club being demoted down to the Third Division.

That follows 25 of the 30 Scottish Football League clubs voting on Friday against allowing Rangers' 'newco' automatic entry into Division One. However, 29 of them still backed their admittance into the Scottish Football League

Houston certainly believes his own club would significantly benefit from the arrival of their big rivals into the SPL after a seven-year absence.

"If it's Dundee who come up, it will be good for us financially," he told the Daily Record. "From a Dundee United point of view, it's what we want as we know we're going to fill our ground and the same goes for Dens Park - and that`s with no disrespect to Dunfermline."

The Tangerines are already visiting Dens Park for a local derby friendly this weekend.
