Russell brace in latest win

Striker Johnny Russell struck twice as Dundee United continued their pre-season build-up with a 2-0 win at Alloa Athletic.

Russell fired low past Scott Bain following Gary Mackay-Steven's pass midway through the opening half after Kevin Cawley had already twice gone close at the other end.

Cawley then missed another opportunity and home keeper Bain reacted well to keep out goalscorer Russell before the interval.

Alloa's David Cox headed against the crossbar upon the restart and Stevie Banks saved superbly from Ryan Harding's follow-up.

However, Russell added a second for the visitors to secure them victory with fifteen minutes remaining.
