United insulted by offer
Dundee United rejected a joint bid of £1.25m from Huddersfield Town for Scotland Under-21 internationals Johnny Russell and Gary Mackay-Steven on transfer deadline day.
The Terriers certainly had plenty of money to spend after selling Scottish international striker Jordan Rhodes to Blackburn Rovers for a record £8m fee earlier in the day.
They previously recruited United left-back Paul Dixon over the summer and were hoping to add a couple of his former team-mates to the ranks.
But the Tayside club described their latest offer for the highly-rated attacking pair as "an insult."
Meanwhile, SPL champions Celtic were also linked but without submitting any firm bid.
