United moving on up

Dundee United midfielder John Rankin remains confident his side have turned the corner this season.

The Terrors ended a dismal sequence of four straight SPL defeats with a 1-1 weekend draw against Aberdeen at Tannadice.

It still leaves them only a single place above locals rivals Dundee at the bottom of the table but Rankin believes his colleagues can now push on after claiming his first goal of the season against the Dons.

"Everyone says they expect Dundee United to be in the top four or five, but we were in the same situation last season - in the bottom two at the end of October," Rankin told stv.tv. "But we bounced back and went on a run. We have got that experience on our side. We know how to get out of this situation.

"Fair enough, we didn't want to be there in the first place but now we need to react and put a run together that puts us where we
feel we should be," he added. "We have got the confidence and players that feel as if we can do that."
