No defence for United

Assistant manager Paul Hegarty blasted the defending of Dundee United following their 4-3 defeat to St Mirren at Tannadice.

The Tangerines came back from conceding early to lead 2-1 at the break courtesy of a Jon Daly penalty and Stuart Armstrong - until their opponents netted three times without reply before Barry Douglas' last-minute consolation.

The hosts also had central defender Brian McLean sent-off and have now won only twice in eleven attempts in front of their own supporters this season.

"We've got to defend better and the players know that," Hegarty told BBC Scotland. "We've got to work on that and make sure it doesn't happen again.

"A lot of the defensive qualities weren't there, we caved in," he added. "The goals that we lost were unacceptable. Our away record is very good but our home record to appease the fans is not at the standard we know at Dundee United."
