Former player in the running

Dundee United are to hold talks next week with Falkirk manager and former United defender Steven Pressley over the Tannadice vacancy.

The 39-year-old made over a century of appearances for the Tayside club in the mid-nineties, later joining Falkirk before being appointed manager in February 2010.

However, Ross County boss Derek Adams has already ruled himself out of contention to replace the outgoing Peter Houston in the summer.

Meanwhile, Tangerines chairman Stephen Thompson has interviewed another former United player, striker Billy Dodds, while ex-Bristol City chief Derek McInnes and Partick Thistle manager Jackie McNamara have also been linked.

"I think it's a great job," Dodds told BBC Scotland. "It would interest a lot of people. I was flattered to be invited up to do the interview. I face stiff competition. I had a good chat with the directors."
