Houston leaves Dundee United

Dundee United manager Peter Houston has left Tannadice by mutual consent.

The 54-year-old had been due to depart the club at the end of the season after deciding against extending his contract.

However, this has been brought forward and the Tangerines must now step up their search for his successor, with Falkirk's Steven Pressley and Partick Thistle boss Jackie McNamara amongst the leading candidates.

Houston famously steered United to the Scottish Cup in May 2010, within months of his original appointment, and also led them into Europe in three successive seasons.
