New boss relishes challenge

New Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has described a great opportunity after taking over at Tannadice.

McNamara leaves Partick Thistle in second place in the First Division table in order to succeed Peter Houston on Tayside.

"This is an established Scottish Premier League club with a fantastic playing squad, infrastructure and youth set-up and I cannot wait to start working with the players," he told BBC Scotland. "When I spoke to the board, we shared the same vision and belief with regards to how Dundee United should progress.

"This club has very strong foundations with the majority of the first-team squad under contract beyond this summer and a very strong youth structure in place," McNamara added.

His first game in charge is at home to Rangers in the Scottish Cup fifth round this weekend.
