Defensive blow for United

Dundee United centre-back Gavin Gunning could have already played his last game of the season.

The 22-year-old former Blackburn Rovers defender suffered a knee injury during the latest 3-1 victory against Hearts. And now subsequent tests have shown the Irishman may be in need of surgery.

"Gav Gunning came off last weekend and it now looks like we could miss him for the rest of the season," manager Jackie McNamara told stv.tv. "We still don't know the full extent but we will find out soon enough.

"It's disappointing because he has done well for us," he continued. "Especially at this stage, with cup games and the last bit of the league to go."
