Defender comes on trial

Dundee United have taken Swedish free-agent centre-back Marcus Törnstrand on trial.

The 23-year-old has been training with the Tangerines after being released by former club Hammarby. United are currently short of options in the middle of defence since Gavin Gunning was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, and could view the one-time Swedish Under-21 international as a possible alternative.

"We'll have a wee look at him," boss Jackie McNamara told the Dundee Courier. "The difficult thing is trying to get a game to have a look at him in, as I've not seen much of him.

"With Gavin getting injured, I think we're a bit short at the back," he added. "The window's shut, there's not a lot we can do, but we'll have a look."
