Close call denies United

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara believes his side were denied a late winner at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The incident occurred when home goalkeeper Ryan Esson clawed away a 77th minute John Rankin shot that had deflected off Jon Daly during the scoreless encounter at the Caledonian Stadium.

But the decision went in favour of the hosts despite McNamara claiming the ball had already crossed the line before the keeper retrieved it.

"I think you can tell by the player's reaction that they thought it was over," McNamara told BBC Scotland. "The angle [TV replay] is from the main stand but it looks like it's over the line from there. These wee things are very important to get right.

"I asked the linesman and he thought that he wasn't going to guess on it, which you have to accept," he added. "I thought we merited the three points. This is a hard place to come and we were the better side."
