Mixed emotions for McNamara

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara was grateful for a late equaliser in their local derby with Dundee at Tannadice.

Substitute Michael Gardyne cancelled out Ryan Conroy's goal with just a minute remaining after the visitors had earlier seen Gary Irvine sent-off midway through the opening half of the 1-1 draw.

"It's a case of mixed emotions," McNamara admitted to BBC Scotland. "We didn't do all that well with the 10 men. It was hard but we still kept going to get the equaliser.

"I have to praise the players for that. They never gave up," he continued. "We had enough chances to win but it wasn't to be. We're still in the running for the top-six place but we need more wins at home."

Dundee are still unbeaten in the SPL since new manager John Brown took charge last month and this was the first time in four games they had avoided defeat to their biggest rivals this season.
