Tangerines reject striker bid

Dundee United have rejected an offer from Italian Serie 'A' club Catania for leading scorer Johnny Russell.

The Sicilians have reportedly made a couple of bids for the 23-year-old striker over the past three weeks, with the latest of them being around 600,000 Euros (approximately 515,000).

But the Tannadice board considered that below their valuation of the 20-goal marksman who is currently ruled out of action with a broken fibula.

Russell still has a year left on his existing contract and it is hoped that he can be persuaded to extend that deal.

However, SPL champions Celtic are also monitoring his situation, while a number of leading clubs from south of the border are similarly keeping checks.
