Midfielder thrilled at return

Dundee United's summer signing Paul Paton can't wait to face former club Partick Thistle on the opening day of the new season.

The 26-year-old is joined by fellow newcomer Chris Erskine and manager Jackie McNamara in making a swift return to Firhill, although he promises there will be no mixed emotions against the SPL newcomers.

"You couldn't have scripted it better to have pulled Partick Thistle for our first league game," Paton told the Dundee Courier. "It's funny that we have them at Firhill when they will unveil the First Division flag and for me it's an added bonus. It brings even more attention to the game.

"After being part of it last season, it'll be good to be at the flag day, but I will only have Dundee United on my mind," he continued. "It's about taking the three points and kicking on for the rest of the season."
