Dundee United could turn to youth

Dundee United boss Craig Brewster could turn to his youngsters in an attempt to climb off the bottom of the SPL.

Defender Garry Kenneth, 19, and striker David Goodwillie, 17, could feature against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday (Oct 21) after impressive Brewster in a reserve outing against Hearts

After seeing his reserves beat Hearts 3-1, Brewster told the Dundee Courier: 'That's the best I've seen Garry play. I've been getting on to him for not being aggressive enough. Against Hearts he was both aggressive and alert. He's still only a kid but has a great physical presence and real potential.'

Goodwillie, who scored in the match and has played for the first-team as a substitute, is 'knocking quite hard on the door,' according to Brewster.

Another player who could make an appearance is new-signing Lee Wilkie, who is attempting to make his third comeback from cruciate ligament problems. However, Brewster seems keen to ensure Wilkie is fully-fit before risking him in the first-team, and may wait for the former Dundee defender to play some more games for the reserves.

Manager rant was justified - McDonald

Weekend match-winner Scott McDonald felt manager Ray McKinnon was fully entitled to blast his players during the narrow victory against Brechin City.

United hopeful over midfielder

Dundee United remain hopeful that midfielder Scott Fraser's foot injury isn't too serious.

Striker Scott McDonald scored a vital late winner to keep Dundee United firmly setting the pace at the top of the Championship.

The Tangerines included Scott Fraser for the suspended Paul McMullan and his curled effort after moving inside was denied by goalkeeper Graeme Smith.

Both James Keatings and McDonald also threatened for hosts seeking a third consecutive league victory having previously accounted for Inverness CT and Queen of the South.

The visitors were then close
