Brewster can be Dundee Utd legend

Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood has claimed Dundee United would have sacked manager Craig Brewster if he was anyone else.

Calderwood made the comments ahead of Aberdeen's match with the Arabs at Pittodrie on Saturday (Oct 21), but added that Brewster will work wonders if he is given time.

Dundee United are bottom the SPL following their 4-1 loss against Celtic at the weekend, and Brewster has only won two out of 26 games since he took the reins at Tannadice.

Calderwood told the Daily Record: 'I'm surprised how things have gone for Craig but he was a bit inexperienced at that level in the beginning. Their chairman put his confidence in him and now has to see it through.

'Craig's not daft enough to think that with his record there is anything but pressure. I think if it had been anyone else they would have been out of a job. I'm sure I'd have been sacked if it was me who had run up those stats, and probably rightly so, but that's a different set of circumstances.'

Calderwood added that Brewster's legendary status as a player has helped him to remain in the hot-seat and, given time, he will also become a legend as a manager.
