'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Too many things wrong - McNamara

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara witnessed his side's six-game victory sequence finally coming to an end against St Mirren in Paisley.

The visitors didn't exactly help themselves with full-back Keith Watson being sent-off with twenty minutes remaining of their 4-1 defeat, although McNamara believes Buddies' Jim Goodwin should already have seen red by then for persistent fouling. He was actually substituted just before half-time to avoid precisely that.

"A number of things went wrong today," McNamara admitted to BBC Scotland. "I'm disappointed with the first couple of goals we lost, which came from a switch-off at a throw-in and a break of the ball. We got ourselves back into it before half-time and I felt confident we could go on to win the match.

"In the second half their 'keeper had three or four excellent saves and the sending-off kills us. We put two up front and changed the shape a little bit and we went for it and got penalised on the break," he added. "I don't have any problems with the sending-off, but I don't think there was any malice in it. He's off the ground a little bit. I don't think it is one I feel we can appeal."
