United hopeful over midfielder

United hopeful over midfielder

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara remains optimistic that weekend goalscorer John Rankin will sign a new deal at Tannadice.

The 30-year-old midfielder netted the winner in the 3-2 triumph over Kilmarnock but is out of contract at the end of the season.

"We want to get it sorted, for both parties," McNamara told the Dundee Courier. "Hopefully we can come to an agreement because it would be good for John and for ourselves for the next few years.

"I am more positive," he continued. "Speaking to John, he is comfortable about the situation but obviously he has an important decision to make about his future."
