Midfielder signs new deal

Dundee United midfielder John Rankin has signed a new deal keeping him with the club until 2016.

The 30-year-old has made 117 appearances and scored nine times for the Tangerines since arriving from Hibernian almost three years ago.

"The last three seasons have been the most enjoyable period of my career," Rankin told BBC Scotland. "I see the potential here right now and I want to be a part of that. There's a positive vibe around Tannadice.

"We have shown progress over my time here and I think we are now ready to go to the next level," he added.
