Donnelly hails perfect response

Dundee United assistant boss Simon Donnelly was pleased to witness his side recovering from their recent disappointment against forthcoming Scottish Cup final opponents St Johnstone.

Nadir Ciftci (2), Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Dow and Brian Graham were each on target as the hosts closed the gap on third-placed Motherwell with a comprehensive 5-1 victory at Tannadice.

"Unless it's impossible, we won't give it up," Donnelly told BBC Scotland. "Motherwell have still got the lead on us. But, if we hadn't got that result today, it would have been impossible.

"Right up until last week, with the disappointing result against St Johnstone, we wanted to catch Aberdeen and Motherwell," he added. "We've given ourselves a great chance by pegging back three points today and we will keep chasing. It's all to play for and we have the Scottish Cup final in four games' time as well."
